Run wisely

Run wisely.

Now this is a nice read. I can’t help but feel somewhat guilty that I might be just joining in on the fad since I’ve ran 4 marathons in just half of the year, but I’m not pushing for the “half-mary” or “full marathon” just yet. My body can’t handle it. But when I think about it,  I’m not really doing it because it’s the latest craze. Actually I didn’t know it’s what’s hype right now until I read the article.

It’s true that I don’t need any running event to run, but the marathons challenge me in such a way that I am pushing myself to train. Somehow, it’s instilling in me the value of discipline in which up until now, I haven’t learned well yet.

I will be running in the 2013 Milo Marathon, and unlike all the previous marathon I’ve joined, this one has supposedly a cut-off time. So I’m really taking it seriously, training twice a week just to get me in shape.

But really, this is a nice read. It made me stop and think, why am I really running? … the answer, simple, because I want to be free. 🙂

Why I Run Marathons…???

I conquered another 10Km run last Sunday at Adidas King of the Road Philippines marathon. It’s my second 10KM run and I must admit I am real pleased with myself and I am really proud for finishing and beating my last run time, despite lack of training and being late for the event. Though still waiting for the final result of the race, I am confident that I beat my 1:48 hours last Run Rio Leg 2. Not much, especially for elite runners, but for a noob runner like me, who smokes half a pack per day, I’ll say that’s quite an achievement. I am hoping my run time last Sunday won’t exceed 1:30 hours, I told myself I won’t run for the Milo Marathon 2013 if I ran more than one and half hour.

And the usual question I get, why spend money to run, when you could run for free? Weeeeell, yeah! I could just do laps at UP Grounds or jog around Quezon Memorial Circle.

However,  there REALLY is a great difference when one is training to run as compared to running towards the finish line. In a marathon, the finish line is the goal. And since it is a competition, apart from beating ones personal record, reaching the end line ahead of the others makes it more… exciting? or yeah of course, competitive.

Right now, my main goal is to beat my personal records, and to be able to run the whole 10Km without so much of an idle walk. And of course, moving on, eventually, to the next distance event probably 16K or 21K.

So come on, let’s run. It’s great for the health and mental well-being 🙂
